Patricia Phenix wrote a book titled Two Hundred Years of American Dolls, which was released in 1992. It covers all aspects of American doll history, from the early colonial era to the present.
There are three parts to the book. The colonial era and the Civil War are covered in the first section, “The Early Years.” The Civil War and the turn of the century are covered in the second section, titled “The Victorian Era.” The time from the turn of the century to the present is covered in the third section, “The Twentieth Century.”
The social and cultural context of doll collecting is discussed in each part, and the most well-liked dolls of the time are also surveyed.
